Vampires
For a while now I’ve been sure that witches is a concept created by a neurotypical mind of that time to capture the unexpected and frightening nature of women who were not fulfilling the expectations of docile, nurturing, safe, etc.
But what are vampires?
I’m guessing (fairly confidently) that it was a concept to capture the experience of highbrow snobby deep intellectuals who are nonetheless are very polite and wouldn’t intrude upon you without your invitation — but once allowed, drain you with their unquenchable thirst for more and more and more knowledge, leaving you exhausted and feeling quite empty, sometimes converting you into such an intellectual as a result.
It all underpins nicely by the sweeter dopamine rewards we get as we miss our bedtime — anyone who binged a TV show with a late night snack can testify that it feels so much more powerful under the veil of darkness. Being consumed by a book or being taken by a vivid imagination someplace else — we all have that one friend who stays up past midnight and is incapable of getting out of bed before noon.
